What is Acupuncture?
Western practice differs from traditional acupuncture. Traditionally, the focus was on an energy force believed to flow through the body called Qi. When Qi was believed to be blocked or out of balance ill health was said to ensue. Acupuncture helped to restore the flow of Qi or balance. You can find out all about Qi here. However, the focus among western acupuncturists is more fact based. Namely, we can see that acupuncture stimulates nerves and muscle tissues, which contribute to pain management. When we perform acupuncture on a patient, we see positive signs like the release of natural, pain-relieving hormones such as endorphins, reductions in muscle spasms, a boost to the immune system and improved relaxation. We have observed many positive results from perfoming acupuncture on patients in the Oldham area
What happens when you visit our Acupuncturists?
Your acupuncture therapist will painlessly insert sterile, single use, disposable needles (typically 25 – 50 times thinner than a small syringe used by a doctor) into your skin at certain points of the body. The placement of these needles is determined by how best to combat your particular ailment. The acupuncture session usually lasts 20 – 30 minutes but can be longer if needed. We usually recommend about 8-10 sessions to see significant improvement. There are no side effects to acupuncture treatment.
